Gerald Niznick DMD, MSD is a prosthodontist who was the founder and president of four implant companies over the last 43 years: Core-Vent (1982-1997), Paragon (1997-2001), Implant Direct® (2004-2013) and the new Paragon™ (2022-present). Dr. Niznick has been awarded 34 US Patents, including the internal conical connection (1987) that has become the cornerstone of modern implant design. He was most recently awarded the patent for the NizPlant one-piece implant with a dual-function platform. As of the date of this newsletter, he has three pending patent applications related to design features of Paragon’s™ new implant systems. Dr. Niznick has been at the forefront of the evolution of implant design and has been addressing the controversies created by competing implant claims for over 40 years. New Patent!
A Paradigm Shift in Implant Design
Dear Colleagues,
As 2024 draws to a close, I want to share what an eventful year it has been at Paragon Implant Company. We grew our team from 62 to 97 people in 2024. We now have all three of our operating facilities in place: Calabasas, CA (Manufacturing), Valencia, CA (Sales and Customer Support) and Las Vegas, NV (Distribution and Education). Our education program is expected to launch in May 2025 with Dr. Mark Adams as our Director of Education. In October, we entered into a distribution agreement with DESS to distribute directly to dentists a significant portion of DESS’s prosthetic portfolio in the United States. I ran into many friends, colleagues and former customers at events around the country, and was thrilled to see the excitement and anticipation around my return to the dental implant industry.
Paragon is set to launch the GEN5, GEN5+ and NizPlant System based on 3 new patents. I believe these implants represent a paradigm shift in implant treatment. The GEN5 has a 2mm machined neck with depth gauge lines, providing vertical flexibility in placement, to accommodate uneven ridges and different soft tissue thicknesses. In addition, the GEN5+ adds a friction-fit 2mm extender that serves as the trans-mucosal base of a variety of abutments. Should recession occur, this is the only implant that will allow removal of the 2mm extender and repositioning of the margin of the restoration 2mm deeper for esthetics. The 1-piece NizPlant has a patented dual function platform that accepts overdenture attachments and can also function as a MUA. This will allow initial restorations with overdentures, and future conversion of a fixed restoration. The GEN5+ and NizPlant also have 2mm machined necks with depth gauge score lines to facilitate the degree of supra-crestal placement needed, depending on the thickness of the tissues. Varying the depth of the implant will eliminate the need for an inventory of abutments in different heights.

Dr. Gerald and Reesa Niznick’s passion for dental education and care inspires $5 million gift to the University of Manitoba
This gift, in addition to their previous gift of $7.5 million, will support the construction of a 5-story building that will house new undergraduate and postgraduate dental clinics at the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry. Dr. Niznick graduated from University of Manitoba College of Dentistry in 1966 and went on to receive a MSD degree in Prosthetics from Indiana University in 1969.
